Iconography

Icons produced by me are written (the correct term, rather than "painted") using the traditional, ancient 15th-century technique of icon writing. This method employs egg tempera and natural pigments on solid wood panels, finished with ten or more coats of hand-prepared natural gesso and natural glue, and adorned with 23-24K real gold leaf.

Viewing the icon as a Holy Image, we hold the belief that it should not contain anything synthetic or artificial. Only pure and natural materials are chosen for writing icons. This is the oldest and most challenging technique of writing an icon because it is, first and foremost, a spiritual process.

In addition to adhering to traditional techniques, I also offer the flexibility to customize icons to match specific styles or personal preferences. Whether you are seeking a particular color scheme, size, or thematic representation, I work closely with clients to ensure that each icon not only meets the rigorous standards of sacred art but also resonates personally with the individual or community it is intended to serve. This bespoke approach allows for a truly unique spiritual artifact, tailored to enhance the devotional ambiance of any prayer corner or space.
